Grandpa's Car
I have been trying very hard not to give you more sad poems but I’m sorry, this one tumbled out last night.
When I feel something, I wonder - who else is going through it? And when I sent this to a friend she immediately asked if she could pass it on to someone who needed it. Another brilliant old school friend reached out from Beijing the other day to whisper a loss they were coming to terms with. My brother told me sad stories on the phone yesterday afternoon.
We are all going through it.
Grandma likes to quote Mr Rogers when things get tough: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
We are surrounded by friends and family who know, who reach out, who offer to help. Grandma’s friends who are packing up her house are nothing short of remarkable.
Yes, there is great sadness. And that’s okay. Because it is the traces of great love.
